Which is your favorite Hell?

The Gray Waste. All other 'hells' are but shallow imitations. So says your friendly neighborhood yugoloth anyways.

Excerpt from a little something I wrote and posted up on Planewalker:

"But the depths of the Waste are reserved for the purest of evils; cold, remorseless, clinical and detached. The agonies of the Waste are constant and cannot be driven away by any act of will or show of strength. It saps the life, emotion, motivation and the will to live from the greatest hag to the lowest larvae. It is omnipresent and uncaring. The agony of the Waste pays no heed to whether you are strong or weak, it kills you slowly and painfully simply because it can. You are bereft of any influence upon your torment whatsoever. Will matters not, circumstance matters not, and not even the glimmer of release from your self imposed torture exists that might upon Carceri. You are nothing, you are unimportant, but you will suffer all the same."

Hell of the Horny Dragon lol. No my favorite hell is one where there are score of tollhouse cookies and a refrigirator full of milk except the cartons are empty.

The Seraph of Earth and Stone

I hear there's one that consists entirely of shrimp.

Seriously I've gotten bored with the whole plane structures, with a zillion different planes and layers. So IMC, there's the Heavens and the Underworld, connected by the Plane of Shadows. Spells that used to use astral and ethereal use shadow, and no elemental planes. The underworld is largely a dark and shadowy place filled with undead, with spots of flame and torment. I really don't see the need for anything more.

I tried a planar landscape like maddman75's but it seemed a little dull in execution, not really enough going on. Hell was the moon, in which the dark goddess was imprisoned. Each of the dark gods had a single massive crater, and the distances between them kept changing as they all moved about - Like Soup! The three demonlords also had their own realms, while the godess on entropy lived in the spaces between realms. No one ever went there, and while a fine philospohical construct, it never had any details.

The only layer of hell I ever sent people to was a layer of the abyss owned by Kali - very indian themed, raksatas abounded, fahkirs, demonic elephants, vicious plants and a planescapesque city. lots o fun.

Some of the best insperation for DnD netherrealms comes from the last two gord the rogue books. To h*** with the main character I want more demon politics.
hmm odd that I edit hell when used as profanity, and not when talking about the place.

I kind of mix and match different Hells from different campaigns... I would highly recommend picking up "The Book of Fiends" by Green Ronin. It has some really cool devils that can give you tons of ideas. It also lays out a decent Hell setting. It is a must have IMO.

This is not a poll; this is me scavenging for idea. I'm constructing a planar Hell for my campaign, and I'm not sure what direction to go. I've got Manual of the Planes and Beyond Countless Doorways, and I'm inclined towards the version of Hell in BCD, but I wanted to find out whether there were other good Hell concepts out there. What Hell do you prefer and what about it makes it your own favorite Hell?

:npy:

I prefer Dante's, of which Baator is the most reasonable facsimile. I just like the whole idea of particular layers of punishment and an orderly hierarchical Hell.

Jolly Giant and Mythusmage: Cassius is getting gnawed on too. He and Brutus are in there feet-first, while Judas went in head-first for extra pain.

Cassius was such a loser, it's kinda easy to forget him. :)

The Hell of Low Bandwidth. I ask you, how are you supposed to build a decent pr0n collection at 9.6kbps? ASCII art?
