Hello,

I am getting ready to set-up my next big convention game. I am planning on using D20 mechanics and medieval/fantasy setting, but would like some input on what to do.

Background: Our little Con Winter War just finished in Champaign this past weekend and I was wishing I had taken the time this year to build another big game. This year I am going to start planning early - so I can work on it all Summer. Which of the following would appeal to you as an awesome sight you would love to game in:

A multiple level reverse dungeon - everyone plays a faction of monsters in a huge mastermaze complex competing for food, gold, and power.

A sea battle with 28mm ships and a sea monster or two.

A mad treasure hunt through a huge medieval town 28 mm scale.

A chariot race with different races and different kinds of mounts pulling the chariots.

A huge Gladiator arena where each player represents a gladiator school and tries to put on the best show and win the most matches.

Other - something else.

I want this to be visually spectacular - something that challenges my modelling skills and draws people to the game.

Thanks for your input!

something air or underwater borne...

perhaps a combination....

inside a volcano. a great artifact/treasure was sacrificed to the god of volcanoes. the party must descend inside the lava and recover it before the bead/ball of force gives way and the prize is claimed by the god. ;)

so it is a time trial and one that involves overcoming height, elements like heat, possibly drowning in a liquid (molten lava), and encumbrance to get the item out.

Building a volcano - tempting, very tempting!

i did this for a sixth grade science fair project. used it for my minis before, during, and after... ;)

you need pre gen characters too..

name one of them Joe Versus.

better yet instead of an item...make the bead of force contain a princess.

heroes rescuing a damsel in distress...almost sounds like too much fun. :D

I like the volcano idea best, with a reverse dungeon coming in a close second. However, I would consider why the wall of force is there. If I were a group of evil priests I would just dump the sacrifice directly into the lava. Perhaps, if it is a princess the king had a wizard cast it to buy the PCs time to rescue her? If it was an artifact maybe the original owner who they stole it from cast it?

I like the ships idea best.

I'm trying to build a wooden ship template to use for gaming myself. A full-on model would just be too much work. Now I just need a couple dozen undead pirates! :)

How about a combination of things?

Start out with a reverse dungeon, where 4-6 players pick their race and then they race and battle to be the first team to retrive some item hidden away in the dungeon, and return it to their starting point. Play this scenario 4 times for 4 winners, each winner then hops on a ship and tries to be the first team to sacrifice the item in a volcano on an island. All the while trying to sink the other ships. Maybe once they land on the island it's not deserted?? or maybe they had better hope they have enough manpower to get the item to the crater's edge before it erupts?

Since you wanted a challenge..... this would make you have to design the dungeon, design the ships and water battles, and design the volcano. Now that would be an epic game they would talk about at Winter War for years. Just my oppinion of course. :D

That's exactly the kind of project I want though - something that makes everyone in the Con say, "My god, that guy is nuts!"

Reverse Dungeon with a big lead so far - trying to think of how to make that amazing from a modelling point of view. I can already layout tons of dungeon on tables - perhaps multiple levels?

Keep in mind I have 25 sets of mastermaze and a lot of custom built hirst arts dungeon rooms as well - I need an idea to really set that dungeon apart.
