I'm trying to set up a trip to one of them with my group. if you can only hit one and either socal or indy will cost you about the same ammount to get to, which would you hit? why? when not in the convention center, what's there to do in indy that's a must do? i've checked out the gencon sites, i just want to know from those who have been there why they loved/hated them. also what event types would you prebook and which ones suck?

Gen Con Indy!! Why? It's the one I'm at!! :D

I've only been to the Indy one. I have never been in need to do things after hours. EN World always has a gathering place to find people for pick up games, hang out with, goto dinner with, etc.

Well, the Anehiem Convention Center is right across the street from Disneyland, in case you didn't know :) Also, the beach is pretty close if you're into that whole "Sun" thing. Sure, it'll be November, but that means it'll be down to mid 80's

Go to Indy. It's the "real" Gencon; all others are imposters! Or pale imitations of the real thing.

There is a lot of "night life" in downtown Indy (if you like to do that sort of thing). When I go to GenCon, I go to game and shop, so I don't really care about local sightseeing.

If you like Call of Cthulhu, you can play a lot of it at GenCon. The stuff run by Chaosium has always been well run, and also something run by "Circle City Games" (or something like that; this was 18 months ago).

I also like the games run by Pinnacle (I'm a Weird Wars fan). Their stuff has always been well run.

The games at GenCon are a crap-shoot. Most are run decently, but you always have a slight chance of getting a stinker (or a game getting cancelled). Of course, you always have a slight chance of getting something wonderful & fantastic, too.

Whichever you choose, have fun! :)

I would head to GenCon Indy! I was there last year and it was a great time. Huge turnout, great convention center and nearby hotels. Lots to do in the downtown for gamers and non-gamers alike. And home of the RAM!

having gone to both this year, i'd say Indy, by far and away. Indy has one hundred times the stuff to do and things to see as Socal, and a lot of cooler releases and everything. The only real reason to go to socal so far is if it is in driving distance =)

Indy has a great facility, and based on anecdotal information I read has a much larger vendor presence. It definitely has more releases and more gaming. I went this year and it was an absolute blast!

GenCon Indy is the event that most gaming exhibitors will attend, without fail. Indy will contain more new releases, more gaming tournaments, etc.
