I just got my vacation approved for Aug. I can't wait to go!! I have family in Indy so I can kill two birds with one stone. Spend a couple of days with family and four days gaming! This will be my first Gencon!

also what event types would you prebook and which ones suck?

I guess it would depend on what systems you like or other game types you like. I know that the "Learn to Hack" games from kenzerco sold out very fast last year as did some of the WotC sponsored RPGA events and the Mutants and Mastermind games sponsored by Green Ronin. So if you're interested in any of those, sign up early for tickets.

You can get some generic tickets and find open games at the convention site.

GenCon Indy is a blast but I might also suggest giving Origins a try. I hit both every year and both have specific advantages and high points.
