First Post
Hi all, i got a new PS3 this past Christmas and now I am in search of games to get. The games i like play are action adventure and RPG games. Scifi and Fantasy are the top genres I am looking mostly scifi if there any urban (or modern) fantasy games out their even better. They games I have played and own(ed) were FFVII (I own) &FFX, Resident Evil 1 and 5 (which I own) and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 (I own)& 2. Any ideas or suggestions?

my recent video game addiction has been dragon age origins (fantasy rpg).
However, based on another thread floating around here when the game came out - either you like it or you hate it, with few people inbetween those extremes.. ;)

Another awesome game is Batman Arkum Asylum. It's, well, Batman (modern setting, with batman style gadgets, some stealth, some combat, etc). An action game (so, yes, at times you do resort to button mashing but you get bonuses for creative button mashing). and it's (in my opinion) well done.

Well - when it comes to titles available on both the PS3 and the Xbox 360, I'm sure you are able to judge what you might like. For example, Dragon Age or maybe even Sacred 2.

For PS3 exclusives, I'd say top of the list would be Valkyria Chronicles which is easily the best and most underrated PS3 exclusive to date, imo. Demon Souls is worth looking at as well but it is an extremely hard game and some people don't like the difficulty factor.

FFXIII will be out for you in less than two months (though not an exclusive), I expect this one will actually play better on the PS3 than the 360.

If you can pick it up used for a good price, Metal Gear Solid 4 shows off the PS3 very well and Little Big Planet is a charming game for hit and run play. Uncharted 1 and 2 are very worthwhile games to get as well if you can pick them up used.

I recently picked up a copy of [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Ratchet-Clank-Future-Destruction-Playstation-3/dp/B000UC5ML0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1263840704&sr=8-1-spell"]Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction[/ame] which I'm enjoying.

My favourites PS3 games so far are Batman: Arkham Asylum and Prince of Persia. Both have fantastic gameplay, excellent graphics from the technical and artistic point of view, good story (for a game), and excellent acting. If you enjoy action adventure games, I believe you'll liked these two very much.

Any modern-day/urban fantasy type games like Hellboy, Harry Potter and/or Percy jackson type? it doe s not have those exact titles. Like myth and fantasy world exists in the modern age.

The thing I hear all the time about Demon Souls is that it isn't difficult in the "hardcore skillz" sense of the word, but rather it just sort of throws you to the wolves without tuition (hmm, lessee, I get +3 in squiggly line, but -5 in inverted triangle thingy....is that good?). Then there's cheap difficulty like a boss one-shotting you and setting back hours of progress. Uggh.

Uncharted 2 Among Thieves got wild rave reviews and won lots of GotY awards. Oddly, looking at the reviews, none of them are very specific about what's great about the game outside of the story elements.

Heavy Rain comes out in a few weeks. Hope it lives up to the hype machine.

Are you mostly a solo player?

If you want a great group for friends I suggest Little Big Planet Game of the Year Edition. I totally love it.

Some solo-centric games (some mentioned already): Uncharted, Uncharted 2, Dragon Age Origins (I own this one for PC, looooooove it), Batman Arkham Asylum (way better than any prior Batman games, trust me).

Some upcoming titles: White Knight Chronicles, Final Fantasy XIII, Heavy Rain (search for this one on youtube, IMO it looks amazing)

The Uncharted series and the Ratchet & Clank Future series are phenomenal. Since they both had sequels released recently, you should be able to find the originals discounted.

I had a blast playing Batman: Arkham Asylum. The combat is based on timed presses to counter or attack. But Batman punches so hard and the counters are so brutal it really makes the combat visceral and fun. My only complaint is the button mashing needed to pry open the vents.

If you like Bioware CRPG's Dragon Age Origins is good. Make sure you save often as I found it is easy to quickly get over your head. Otherwise, there's Fallout 3 and Oblivion (both in game of the year editions).

Modern fantasy? There's Folklore. I haven't played it, so I'm not sure how it is.

Other games I've enjoyed on my PS3 are Borderlands and Mirror's Edge.

Borderlands is FPS action rpg (how about that for a mashup?) with a post-apoc setting and twisted humor. I'm waiting for some friends to pick it up so we can play coop.

Mirror's Edge is a first person-free running game. It is one of the games that you need to play through multiple times, the first time on easy. The game is more like a racing game that FPS, in that you need to learn new skills through trial and error and watching the ghosts of the best times to refine your skills. But when you get good at moving through levels at breakneck speeds, there's nothing quite like it. The biggest problem is that the game shows you the basic moves, but not the more advanced ones or how to see new ways through the levels.
