In 2e, elves were the uber race.

In 3.5, it was all about dwarves.

Which race do you suspect is going to be better than the rest in 4e?

I voted tiefling, because tieflings are awesome and they deserve some uber to offset the meh of 3E.

But honestly, I'm hoping none.

I have to disagree with your assertion that dwarves are the uber class in 3.5. Free feat at first level + bonus skill point every level = almost every char I've played in 3.5 has been human.

In my experience, players have found the +2 bonus on saves vs. spells and spell-like abilities, the ability to move full speed in heavy armor, a bonus to an ability score that benefits all classes and a penalty to one that hinders few, and the near-immunity to poison to be more desirable than one extra feat and a few skill points here and there.

I have a feeling the only reason Tieflings were turned into a core race (at the expense of one of the other core races) is because one of the designers is a fanboy of those horned part-fiends. And fanboys tend to throw balance to the dogs.

Tieflings will be ubersuperhyper powered so as to be so awesomely gigacool. Their hair will change color and their power level will go above 8000.

It'll be an instant hit.

Gnomes will be removed. They wanted to remove them in 3e, remember? Kept them only as a last minute change.

If tieflings are a core race, yes, they will get the bag full of goodies, leading to cries of "Dwarves got the shaft!"

Half-orcs will be a LA -1 race. :\

I have always wanted to see the humans become more than just the "default" race that everything is based upon. Oh, sure, 1ed gave them unlimited levels... which was given to all other races anyhow. And 1ed allowed the humans to be any class they wanted... which the other races were allowed anyhow. Then only humans could be Paladins... which the other races (especially elves) were allowed anyhow. And the downside? Humans got no bonuses, and were not allowed to multi-class (which they are now).
Yeah, I think the humans should catch a break this time around.
