Which Undead Book is the best?

First Post
I was looking at AEG's Undead, Van Richten's Guide to the Walking Dead, and the Slayer's Guide to the Undead, earlier in the store. I was wondering, which one is the best? There isn't a review up yet for Van Richten's, I already checked. Thanx!

Also, is Dungeon by AEG any good?

Well you can look at the reviews and compare... well at least look at reviews for the other two books.

I picked up Necromancer's Legacy yesterday. That's the expanded print version of the PDF product Thee Compleat Librum ov Gar'Udok's Necromantic Artes which got great reviews here. I admit that I haven't looked at the other books, but I'm very impressed. Some of the work apparently came via OGL from other products, including a bunch of spells from AEG's Undead, but hey... if I'm paying for what someone considered the best bits of some other books, plus new material, that's fine by me!

in fact, I'm looking over the review of Undead right now. I'll look over the review of Necromancer's Legacy too. And maybe Necromantic Lore(I really like the legends and Lairs books, waiting with baited breath for Dungeoncraft).

I have necromantic lore. It's very decent but I prefer Draconic lore myself.

I didn't care much for Dragons by AEG, in a related vein but from what I heard people like Slayer's Guide to Undead.

I loved the original Necromancer's Legacy PDF (Thee Compleat Librum ov Gar'Udok's Necromantic Artes), so now that it is in print, I suggest heartily that you get that.

I got Van Richten's And the Slayer's Guide together and they complement each other quite well.

Van Richten's guide is limited to Skeletons, Zombies, Ghouls and Revenants ( the best part of the book), but the Slayer's guide provides a template version of every undead in the MM, including Bodaks, Devourers, Allips and Mohrgs and includes a bunch of varriant versions of the basic undead.

One word of warning, the art in the slayer's guide may require a fear /horror check.

Ditto. It's good stuff.

I have AEGs Undead, Slayers Guide to the Undead, and Necromancer's Legacy, and all three of the books are very solid IMO. I guess it depends on what you are looking for. If you want a general undead reference, with some new spells, presteige classes, alternate tactics for undead, and hints for using undead in a campaign, then AEG's Undead is probably the way to go. If you want lots of solid crunchy bits like new undead, spells, feats, and presteige classes, then Necromancer's Legacy is good. And the Slayers Guide to Undead is excellent as well- finally somone made every undead in the MM a template!!! The Slayers Guide also has lots of adventure hooks, some new undead types, and some cool new ways to use undead in a game. All three are worth the money, so it just depends on what you are looking for.

That makes me happy, I like being able to show my players pictures in books to help illustrate my points(i.e., when I'm describing something and they just don't quite get it) and it helps when the art is horrific(in a good way).

I picked up Dungeon a while ago, and have just paged through it briefly. My homemade dungeons have always sucked, I wanted to have substance behind my dungeons, not just random rooms and monsters.
