Which witch wished which wicked wish?

I know this was just covered in another thread, but could someone who has dealt with the witch handbooks (IE The Quintessential Witch, the Witch's Handbook et al.) Give me a quick pro and con for each of the books out there?

witch

I can only speak for the quentissential witch and the wild mage witch version as those are the only 2 that I have seen.

the quentisential witch has spells off both the mage and druid lists and can learn spells from both lists that are not on the witch list but at 1 level higher. they learn a set # of spells per level but can research others just as a mage. with the new feats presented in this book they are a strong class. they don't get too many spells per day but have the best list. good skills d6 hit points considered a divine caster so can wear armor.all in all a good and playable class if a bit on the overpowered side.

the wildmage witch version seems like a strait 3e conversion of the wild mage from 2e. they have as meny spells as a sorc, can only learn a few (like a sorc) and have a high chance of spell failure. cant wear armor - can be entertaining to play, not as powerfull as the quentissential but I use both in my game and consider both to be playable.

hope that helps

hmm... what i've heard about Quin witch sounds interesting... what does the Green Ronin handbook have that the Q.W. doesn't?

Bear in mind, that latter bit (being able to research spells from other lists) is at the DM's discretion.

I don't have either, but I do recommend you look at Simon's review of the Witch book from GR on the review page.

I was going to buy one of the Witches class books until I read Psions review regarding how, iirc, there wasn't a stereotype for the witch that the existing classes couldn't already be used for (ie, druid, cleric, sorceror). Also, I figured no one would play as a Witch in my games either so I decided to not get one.

The GR witch book is one of the best looking d20 books out there up to this date :). Well, I know, that's not really a main reason to buy a book, but anyway ;).

Okay, I like the contents as well and want to include a NPC witch coven into my campaign :). As far as PC's are concerned, I would recommend the class for a campaign that is based on more subtle magic, maybe mostly witches and shamans.

I can't comment on the other witch concepts out there, because the GR book is the only one I have. It's true that you can emulate the witch class with other core class concepts from the PHB. However, I still think the book was worth the buy.

witch books

as I said I use 2 in my game . this spellcasting class IMO should have the most diverstiy so using more then 1 keeps the players guessing. and also adds more variety to the npc's.:D IMO
