While Spiderclimbing- Prone?

I agree that its a spell, but I think its also considered a weapon. It is my understanding that one could take the feat Weapon Focus (ray).

The spells can be treated as weapon-like in a similar way that spell-like abilities follow some of the same rules as spells do, but are different in other respects.

It appears that a touch spell will suffer the -4 attack while prone but a ray doesn't.

Also, the use of the word "ground" in the prone condition, does it allow being prone on a wall or ceiling with the stated AC mods? And if you go too literal, a floor  ?

I suppose this starts to overlap with the, 'can you be tripped/prone while under the fly spell discussions'. It's been a while since I've seen one so I don't recall if/what the concensus was.

Though gaining +4 AC from ranged attacks while prone on the cieling, wall, mid-air, is counter intuitive. At the minimum IMHO it would have a unique set of modifiers from the entry for prone condition, if allowed at all.

Exit: after some thought, I wouldn't allow prone (or at least any modifiers for the condition) for these situations, in spite of what might be provable by RAW. I might consider a natually flying creature to suffer stall instead of prone if tripped.

The 'Rays are spells not weapons' argument isn't concinving so far. For what it's worth, I would probably allow thier use. But a strict RAW seems to point to they can't be used from prone.
