Hi-

As players or DM's, do certain tunes get your imagination going?

I was in my vehicle and this country tune came on, all I thought about was a group of Paladins getting back from a hard day of hunting down evil and bringing them to justice then kicking it at some saloon awaiting to go back out to fight evil again. In fact, this is a great tune for Paladins.

Anyway, this tune was written by Toby Keith if anybody wanted to know.

Whisky for my men, beer for my horses!

well a man come on 6 o'clock news says somebody's been shot,
somebody's been abused
somebody blew up a building
somebody stole a car
somebody got away
somebody didn't get too far (yeah)
they didn't get too far

Grandpapy told my Papy
back in my day son a man had to answer
for the wicked thing he done
Take all the rope in Texas
Find a tall Oak tree
Round up all of them bad boys
Hang'm high in the tree
For all the people to see.

(Chorus)
Cause justice is the one thing that
you should always find
you got to sattle up your boys
you gotta draw a hard line
when the gun smoke settles
we'll sing a victory tune
and we'll all meet back at the local salloon
We'll raise up our glasses against evil forces
singing whiskey for my men, beer for my horses

We've got too many gangsters
doin dirty deeds
too much corruption and crime in the streets
It's time the long arm of the law put a few more in the ground
send them all to their maker and he'll settle'm down
You can bet he'll settle'm down

(chorus)

whisky for my men, beer for my horses

(chorus)

singin whisky for my men, beer for my horses

Sounds like country paladins to me. ;)

John Fogerty - "The Old Man Down The Road"

He take the thunder from the mountain, he take the lightning from the sky,
He bring the strong man to his begging knee, he make the young girl's mama cry.

You got to hidey-hide, you got to jump and run;
You got to hidey-hidey-hide, the Old Man is down the road.

He got the voices speak in riddles, he got the eye as black as coal,
He got a suitcase covered with rattlesnake hide, and he stands right in the road.

You got to hidey-hide, you got to jump up run away;
You got to hidey-hidey-hide, the Old Man is down the road.

Aaah!

He make the river call your lover, he make the barking of the hound,
Put a shadow 'cross the window, when the Old Man comes around.

You got to hidey-hide, you got to jump and run again;
You got to hidey-hidey-hide, the Old Man is down the road.
The Old Man is down the road.

Aaah!
You got ta, you got ta, you got ta, hidey-hidey-hide!

And from his 'Eye of the Zombie'

Shadows on the mountain, and the night begins to fall;
Gather up the children, 'fore the darkness takes us all.
Tribe has come together, standin' naked against the night;
Twenty feet from the fire, the evil waits with zombie eyes.

'Bad Moon Rising' of course always makes me think of 'American Werewolf in London'

'Wildfire' is actually a pretty creepy song as well:

By the dark of the moon I planted
But there came an early snow
There's been a hoot-owl howling by my window now
For six nights in a row
She's coming for me, I know
And on Wildfire we're both gonna go

Jethro Tull's 'Cup of Wonder'

Join in black December's sadness,
lie in August's welcome corn.
Stir the cup that's ever-filling
with the blood of all that's born.
But the May Day is the great day, sung along the old straight track.
And those who ancient lines did lay
will heed this song that calls them back.
Pass the word and pass the lady, pass the plate to all who hunger.
Pass the wit of ancient wisdom, pass the cup of crimson wonder.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

every single time i hear Whiskey... i flashback to Robert Duvall and a certain helicopter scene.

Mine's a bit darker; in my Cthulhu-esque fantasy, the lyrics from The Cult's "King Contrary Man" describes one of the PCs in my group pretty well...

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

I saw the devil
The contrary man
I saw the devil down the long, long road
He said to me, boy
He said to me, boy
He said to me, boy
I want your soul
I said no
I said no
I said no
You can't take my soul
No
I said no
I said no, no
You can't take my soul

I took a while and thought about it
Down at the crossroads temptin' fate
I took a while and thought about it
Down at the crossroads temptin' fate
Yeah, yeah, yeah
You can take my soul
Yeah, yeah, yeah
You can take my soul
Take my soul
I want it all, yeah

Play it, baby

Ow, yeah, ow

Zany antics of a beat generation
In their wild search for kicks
Fighting, drinking, scorning convention
Making wild love, making wild love

I saw the devil
The contrary man
I saw the devil down the long, long road
He said to me, boy
He said to me, boy
He said to me, boy
I want your soul
I said yeah
I said yeah
I said yeah
Yeah...

I want it all
I want it all
Yeah

Old heavy metal tunes are good for that.

Man-O-War, Ironmaiden, Bruce Dickenson and others all had their taste of 'fantasy' metal going on.
