Are the Exalted rules for Martial Arts any different from those found in the Kindred of the East supplement? My game shop is really weak on the variety scale...

Well, I'm not sure if the rules for the actual martial arts skill is different, but Exalted is more based around the powers that augment skills. So, you might need 3 dots of Martial Arts to get a power, but that power would let you apply your full dice pool to each dodge attempt, or something like that.

They are a lot different, in Kindred of the East, Martial Arts gave you moves depending if you knew hard or soft style. In Exalted, there is no hard or soft style. There aren't really any set moves, it's all based off descriptions, called stunts. If you describe some cool grab-punch, you get extra dice ,called stunt die, to your attack roll. Every extra success gives you an extra dice on damage rolls. There are also charms, magical abilities that add to your martial arts in some way, like allowing you to add martial arts to your initiative. And Charms don't stop at Martial arts, every skill gets it's own set of charms, including Linguistics(spelling???). I find Exalted a great game, and a nice break from d20 :)

Also, the Martial Arts Charms listed in the Exalted mainbook are just one style of Martial Arts - Snake Style. There are other styles in other sourcebooks, from Tiger Style in the Dawn Castebook to six whole new styles (based around the Elemental Dragons) in the upcoming Exalted: Dragon-Blooded book.

In addition, there are several weapons that can be used with either the Melee skill or the Martial Arts skill, and some require a minimum number of dots in the skill as a prerequisite for use.
