It both makes sense and gives the adventures a sense of connection to the magazine, as opposed to a sense of a bnch of adventures slapped together to fill page content.
Not that Dungeon has felt like that recently; most of the material has been top notch. However, I do get an impression that the Dungeon Iconics simply bind it all together just that little bit more.
Nice touch.
And I agree, some of them would make great DDMs.
