Who 'blogs?

I for one don't like and don't read blogs. I think a blog is helpful for expressing yourself. Otherwise it has no use. Imagine who does like to read what you did or thought today (except your family or friends)

That depends on what you use your blog for, don't it?

Much like a personal website in general.

Exactly. I don't think of my blog...

...as on on-line journal or diary, and I don't put private information in there. I think of it more as a venue where I can publish any little snippets that I think people might enjoy reading. That might be something funny that's happened to me, an observation on life in general, a gaming anecdote, or a link to something that I think people might find interesting.

I do it as a blog because that has a convenience (both for the writer and the readers) and an immediacy that a conventional website lacks.

There are some blogs, such as www.opendiary.com which allow you to limit the number of people who see your writings, or even make them all together private. I once tried to keep up a livejournal and a blog, but I failed. I just never remember to update enough.

You can do that with LiveJournal if you want, although I don't because of the reasons I gave in my earlier post.

Although it's not technically a blog, we made a separate message board on our website for interested parties to read about our travels in India. They are mostly stories rather than day-to-day journals, and they also let our families know that we are still alive and kicking without waiting around for postcards and calls at ungodly times in the morning.

For me, writing those little stories and posting pictures (which we are still behind on) help connect with people that are on the other side of the globe, the value of which is not to be underestimated when you are in a "foreign" land.

I've got two LiveJournals: In the first one I post general essays on politics, science, technology, and whatever else currently occupies my mind (though I do not post things I consider to be private), and the second one is dedicated to the development of my D&D fantasy setting...
