Who is the greatest mage in Sword and Sorcery? (Black Company and Thieves World!)

Crothy,

Hey just cause you get cursed doesn't mean you lose on the scale of power.

Endur,

Wow you have a thing for ladies don't you?

*didn't think Roxane was THAT powerful...*

I'm taking this literally/mechanically, not characterwise. The Dominator doesn't really have all that much character....

Haven't read enough Thieves World to know.

The greatest mage in the Black Company?

(According to the Black Company RPG...)
In the series? The Dominator (it's hard to beat Wizard 75...)
In the company? The Lady (...or Wizard 52)
In the company, excluding The Lady? Tobo (26), followed by One-Eye (15), Shukrat (14), and Goblin (12).

The Old Taken are all Wizard 35, with various multiclasses. The New Taken (or the Lady's Taken) are Wizard 31. Longshadow is a 31st level wizard; Bomanz 27th level, and Booboo 26th level.

To curse someone that is that powerfuil, but cxan't rid themselves of the curse, why not? Curses are not explained well in the books so its nice to think there is someone stronger then him.

Whoa. I'm a fan of the series and I had a half-idea of picking up the RPG, but after seeing this I think I'll pass. Teh epic is spread far too liberally here. Even assuming that the magic system is not comparable to standard D&D, the relative levels are ... weird. One-Eye barely better than Shukrat? Booboo on par with Tobo? Feather and Journey the same as Whisper and Longshadow, and all of them better than Bomanz?

That actually makes sense, given the books.

This one, not so much. But Tobo's massively underpowered, relatively speaking, in the RPG.

Bugs me too. Whisper's easily the equal of any the older Taken, and I'm sure Seth Chalk can take most of the other New Taken.

Or maybe Enas had an off day and the dice weren't with him. :p :) I'm just saying.

I'd have to second Enas Yorl for Thieves World - simply because he is still around....

Other wizards and powers were mentioned - but Some are Powers, some Godlings, but most are dead.

Roxane is dead, dead, dead, destroyed, ripped apart, seperated and gone (for real, not coming back, this time the writers were very clear - its over for her).

Never read Black Company....

Zog,

Yeah well even though Roxane is dead, she still was a damn powerful witch in her own right, regardless of living or not. But Enas, especially because he's a survivor, proves to be the most powerful, simply because he knows how to utilize his magic very efficently and effectively.
