By that logic, most of his book is little more than rumor, because he cites a lot of insider material without specifying precisely who gave it to him.

And a lot of people disagree with your characterization, finding insight into mindset of the extant CEO (who has gone out of his way to portray himself as a gamer) to be valuable, e.g. that he was apparently the originator of the idea to scrap the OGL, rather than simply signing off on it.

But nothing changes my point. This rumor, even if true which it may be, changes nothing. We know someone in HASBRO made a stupid mistake. It doesn't matter who did it, no one individual in the organization makes all of the decisions. Unless you personally have the power to fire someone, it makes no difference.

I think the charitable read had been that it was someone at Hasbro outside of WotC that had pushed it on the folks at WotC, not understanding gaming.

If the CEO of WotC wasn't in on a particular decision that would be a real story.

Obviously the CEO was informed about and at the very least not opposed to the decision.

Those charitables appear to not understand how businesses are run.

You don't micromanage individual decisions of your subordinate companies. If you did, there would be no reason to have a subordinate company as an independent entity and you sure wouldn't hire a CEO and give him loads of money.

The reality can only be that WotC wanted this change and that the people responsible for the decision still runs WotC (unless there's been any notable departures between then and now).

He’s the CEO - he most certainly knew about it and it’s not a leap that it was his idea. Like, wtf do people think happens in a corporation?

My wife is corporate upper management. Not all CEOs micromanage. Sometimes the CEO presents his/her vision to the chiefs who then go to the VPs and instruct them to make the vision happen relatively independently.

So what, exactly will you do about it? I don't care what you call the attempt to change the OGL. Idiot move, mistake, plan from the pit of hell to destroy the industry. The people who are still pissed about it will continue to be pissed. Most people either didn't know about it or care anymore.

What does theoretically identifying the person potentially behind it (and as others pointed out, he obviously knew) change?
