Who Was Your Favorite NPC?

Who was your favorite NPC you ever introduced to a campaign and what ever happened to them?

My NPC was supposed to be one shot. His name was Kie-Ryal. He looked like Julian Sands (Warlock). He was an elven necromancer/alchemist trying to figure out how to take elven DNA and learn how to prolong human life.

In the process, he was unknowingly blighting the local forest. The PCs set up stake outs and found some zombies carrying pails of water into the woods. They tracked them down and found them going into a small cabin.

They attacked the necromancer and subdued him. They explained what was going on and he explained that he summoned the undead with a conjuration spell. He felt bad what was going on and decided to sacrafice himself to a local tree spirit.

The group felt bad about his sacrafice and the dwarven cleric prayed for his revival. An 01 on a god call.

Kie-Ryal was resurected.

He developed an interesting quirk. When he slept, he slept in all black footed pajamas, decorated with purple moons and blue stars. He also slept with a stuffed animal. It was a stuffed skeleton.

He and the party barbarian got into a fight when the barbarian hit him for ignoring him. Kie-Ryal went to cast mage armor, and was gutted. They didnt get him to a town in time and he passed on.

Either Bargle or the Lich from D2 Descent into the Depths of the Earth.

Bargle survived and maintained his grip on the BBEG for many real years in the campaign.

Eventually the players isolated him. They never did kill him.

The Lich from the D2. The players tried to discover who he is. and why he was there. They never did. So I never had to give him a name. ;)

The basically freed him. He had been trapped by the drow in the campaign. And with the introduction of the PCs, he discovered there was a way out.

I had him follow the PCs thru most of the modules. To see what else he could learn from these powerful explorers. :lol

I got two... and they're both in the comic linked in my sig.

First is Razinus Peralin, a red dragon of unimaginable age. He's so much fun to DM, because there's nearly nothing in the world that can challenge him. He looks down on everyone, plays games involving small countries before going to sleep, and generally frightens the PCs. The first time he showed up one PC suggested killing him for his treasure; the others attacked the suggester and started screaming apologies before Razinus even introduced himself.

Second is Guen, an elven sorceress who's been around for some time. She's got the same sort of attitude and a really complex back story... but that's not in the comic yet. A lot of her habits are pretty cool, like her complete contempt for using doors (she doesn't). And her secret.

Then again, there's always Rashid, a necromancer who's not very good... he's good for a laugh, but not my favourite NPC.

In a brief campaign I was running, the local duke had a cadre of Lizardmen as his elite guard. Their Captain was a Lizardman with a bunch of figher levels named Vugog. He was armed with a double-bladed sword and had the track feat.

He followed the PC's across the face of the ruined city (the campaign setting) at the behest of the duke, only to be captured (as the PC's were) and tossed into a gladiatorial pit of a local warlord.

The PC's were forced to ally with their arch foe to escape. It went over well:)

Jacob, a half elf you man (age 15) who was a scout of the second edition Sage and Specialist book. He was rasied by his human half sister Karen. Their parents were killed in an invasion. He guided the party through some short cuts he knew in the local forest and they really liked him. He was honest and adventurious. They basically adopted him and had to have a long talk with Karen for her to allow him to travel with them.

My favorite NPC was Aaron Vaumel, Governier of Mieres in my Birthright campaign. He was based lock, stock and barrel on Larry Flynt, of Hustler Magazine. Complete with hard-to-understand drawel and archaic wheelchair. I think my players got as much a kick interacting with him as I did playing him.

My two favorites are the Old Man, an ancient dwarf cleric of Moradin that almost always gets his way. My other is the Very Old Man, an ancient human (older than the Old Man, somehow) cleric of Pelor. Apparently the two adventured together at some point in time, but that was probably centuries ago.

don't ask me why, but that just reminded my of "Professor Little-Old-Man" (Lilloman!) from the classic Mel Brooks movie "High Anxiety".

Carry on, nothing more to see here...:)
