Awesome! Having never been able to make it to a Gencon :( (3 kids you know :) ) I had no idea there were rules for this sort of thing. They will help out a lot...thanks! We're actualling running this tonight so I will post the results tomorrow. Wish us luck! :D

Well, there aren't "formal" rules in the sense that I got them from some global repository of game rules. They're my rules. I wrote them. :)

I did this once when my chracters wanted to try to DM. They never asked again. They failed miserably. One totally switched the plotline and told us we screwed up doing something we never even did.

Heh, well, you really have to do this with players who are comfortable GM'ing. And there is a verisimilitude rule in there to keep the game consistent. And yes, you have to be prepared for people taking "your" game into a different direction such that, by the time it comes back to you, it's no longer the game you originally intended.

Well, we gave this a try and it was a blast! I started off with 'Roll Initiative' and we were immediately in a pitched battle with no one having any idea of what was going on. At the conclusion of the battle an NPC arrived on the scene congratulating the party and making reference to a bunch of undefined characters and a quest. We then randomly passed the adventure off every 30 min or so until our sixth DM wrapped the whole thing up. The storyline developed quite differently than I had expected and it was hilarious as the last guy tried his best to bring all of the disparate story threads together into some kind of logical conclusion.

Our two lessons learned were to keep the group small when trying this sort of thing (this was a reunion for a friends wedding and we had 9 guys who haven't seen each other in a year or two) because a large party makes it a little cumbersome. In the future I think we'd try it with four or five players max. The evening was also more of a hack and slash (which was still fun) but next time we'd probably try to emphasize a bit more roll playing throughout. All in all though everyone had a good time and it was good for a first try. It also gave some guys a chance to take a turn DM'ing who have either never run a game before or who haven't run one in a long time.

Thanks again for the advice!
