Who's getting a PSP?

We know the price. $250 American dollars. You get the rig and some extra stuff that we don't really want.

The games will be $40 - $50 a shot.

The screen looks sweet.

It will have an incredible lineup of games for all genres.

Online functionality.

Watch movies. Play music.

The battery life will stink.

I already pre-ordered mine. Why? Because I want one. And, if I see that people are paying premium prices like what happened with the PS2, the thing goes straight to ebay where I'll just make my money back a probably a little extra.

All that aside... who else is getting one? Are you psyched for the games? Will you wait until the price goes down?

But just one thing that I ask in advance: Please keep the Nintendo DS talk/comparisons to a minimum. Every forum I go to about this turns into a comparison bashfest. I'd like to focus on the PSP. Thanks!

I'll definitely be picking one up, though I haven't pre-oredered yet. There are some launch titles that interest me (Darkstalkers, Metal Gear Acid, and Untold Legends) but none of those are in the "ooo, gotta have it now" category for me, so I might wait a bit before grabbing one.

Well, that's not entirely true. I have no intention of getting one right away. No use for it, and no games interest me ("psyched for the games"? What are you talking about?). Combine that with the price, and a simple cost/benefit analysis says "hell, no".

I will very likely get one in a year or two, though.

Maybe a year or two when the price has gone down and there is more software. It really is slick gizmo.

Tempting, but very unlikely. At least not in the first year. We'll see how the lineup looks by then. Chances will increase as Square starts to release titles on it.

If all else fails, there's always emulators, which probably will appear within a few months of release. I don't know what I'd do without Visualboy Advance or ZSNES.

I don't like that they are pricing it at $250 which was $50 more that we all thought it would be. But honestly I don't blame them. I would do the same thing. The first shipment will probably sell out on pre-orders just like the PS2. It sets them up well for a price drop close to the holidays.

None of the games are blowing me away, either but Metal Gear Ac!d looks darn cool and it's one of my favorite series so that's a must-buy. I didn't buy a DS in anticipation of the PSP. No real reason why, I guess. My one hope is that they sell the replacement batteries at a reasonable price so I can play the RPG's non-stop while travelling.

I actually admire Sony's marketing. The price is actually $199, but they are only selling "Value Packs" on launch day (and for the forseeable future) which sell for $249 and come with some fairly useless extras (a 32 Meg memory card (too small for mp3s and such), Spiderman 2 on UMD, etc).

They know they have a lot of people just chomping at the bit to buy the thing, probably a lot more than they can supply, but don't want to completely screw them by just setting the price higher.

I figure once Sony can start producing enough to meet demand they will come out with the cheaper, non "Value Pack" one.
