Why are Dwarves Scottish?

I've met some dreadfully un-cool Scots in my time.

Bad cockney accents are the default accent for peasant humans, guards, etc. in most American games . . .

It isn't bad cockney it is actually BBC Murmurset that most americans are using.

Of course, Americans doing British generally sounds like Mary Poppins, or Michael Caine crossed with David Hasselhoff.

Indeed. I've been guilty of half-orcs that sound like Dick Van Dyke from Mary Poppins before. It ain't pretty.

Then again, it's a half-orc. I'm not sure it's supposed to be...

I guess we all can't be cool. I mean, if all the Scots were super-cool, I wouldn't stand out anymore

Still, realistically I suppose we're not any cooler than a lot of other cultures. But for dwarves, it's definitely cool to be Scottish. I mean, you can't go about having halflings play the bagpipes and eat haggis, can you? And what races besides dwarves and half-orcs (because of the racial Str) could you imagine regularly performing the delicate art of the caber toss?
