Why do I feel the need to buy the new core books?

Flexor the Mighty!

18/100 Strength!
1. I'm kind of in the camp that says "WOTC put these out not to help the game, but to help thier cash flow". So I'm kind of mad that there were some drastic changes simply for the sake of making it different enough to require players to get a 3.5 PHB to play in most campaigns, So my anti-milk the customer sense kicks in. I don't feel the changes are anything that I need, and I actively dislike some. Why this urge to buy them?

2. I'd kind of invalidate my Tome of Horrors purchase as I mostly use that for the demons and devil, who are quite underpowered compared to 3.5 Fiends. The same for Armies of the Abyss and Legions of Hell. Two of my favorite books that now need major reworking, or a purchase of the hardcover version that is coming out in November with 3.5 updates. That kind of sucks, the BOVD gets messed up a lot in the same regard.

3. I really don't have the throwaway cash to spend on it.

In light of this I feel this nagging desire to get the new books. What's wrong with me? Am I addicted to new D&D books? And I don't even like 3.x as much as prior editions, but I still want to throw money at WOTC.

Just download the SRD and print it out. If you miss the artwork, open your 3.0 books. Everything is ON THE WEB.

Save your money for the mini's!

(evil corporate laughter to follow)

The books come with new book smell. This is incredibly addictive stuff. I hear WotC's coating the pages with the same stuff they used to put on Magic cards.

BiggueGeekus - I assume you mean the crack? ;)

The only book I have a desire for right now is the Monster Manual. Realizing I have multiple copies of every MM since 1E I figure I might as well make it a grand slam (that and I like the new DR rules and will probably go through my other monster books and update them to what I feel is correct). No way I'm using the goofy facing stuff though. A horse does not take up a 10'X10' area dammit! :mad:

If I find the 3.5 books used (ie 1/2 priced) I might get them then but I just don't feel the urge like you Flexor (and I have to say you are the last person outside of diaglo that I thought would want them! :D)

Nobody in my group is going over to 3.5 and I share the same feeling, I found it helped to buy other books instead like Arcana Unearthed, Hornsaw Forest, rather than waste money on books that will make it harder to use my existing collection.

That's one of my favourite supplments by SS&S!

No other reason to post really, just kind of a 'Look I saw Elvis' thing. :D

Why is it that I'M one of the ones who dislike it LEAST, yet I STILL haven't bought them? :D

Flexor, the words NEW and IMPROVED carry an addiction like no other. Not buying the latest version of the game is like NOT reaching for the next potato chip in a freshly opened bag.

In my situation, I am conserving money, as well as not buying something that I sort of already have. And, come the end of the SRD competition, I will have no need for the 3.5 books for some time to come. :)

I still may yet buy them, but I have, in order of priority:

1) A Mutants and masterminds game planned for North Carolina Game Day;

2) A possible Mutants and Masterminds game to run for my gaming group, who expressed an interest after running a playtest game for them;

3) A current Forgotten Realms Campaign which was going quite well before we broke for Gencon;

4) An Arcana Unearthed Game that I wish to put together one day soon;

5) A TESTAMENT game which I hope to put together one day;

6) My other DM's space-faring D&D game that he was experimenting with and wishes to continue;

7) Freaking time for my family, who would kill me if I spent all that time gaming. :)

So, before I get back to 3.5e, I've got SEVEN other priorities to fill. Better too many than not enough.

I love that time with the family is number seven. Are you one of those guys that's honest to a fault? ;)
