Why do they bother putting up Map previews?

Just took a look at the Shadowdale: The Scouring of the Land map gallery. Gimme a break. All of the images are set to 400 pixels wide. You'd need a bloody magnifying glass to read them. They changed them the last time, but, it looks like someone's being pretty stingy with bandwidth.

Big old Thumbs Down.

I pretty much agree, although last time someone complained Scott got larger images up. Then again, I'm still waiting for the Eyes of the Lich Queen map gallery.

Honestly, they seem reasonable to me. I can see the quality of the maps, which is enough to get my attention to a product.

That said, I don't think that's the intention of the map galleries - but I think someone over there doesn't realize this. As a promotional tool, this size works fine. As a gallery, less fine.

The company that really has this down is Paizo. Their Online Supplements to Dungeon have all the maps (keyed and unkeyed) with all the artwork in a flexible format. If I had a plotter I could probably print out the maps as battlemaps and still have them looked reasonable.

Their only flaw has been keeping them at the bottom of the priority ladder.

I will see if we can fix this one too.
Scott, high-res versions of the maps of Shadowdale itself would be particularly appreciated, so we can print them at less cramped sizes than they are in the book. Thanks for the help.

The maps images for the preview will be made larger today.

In the long run I would like to see the tactical maps shown online to be printable to be used at the table. I understand a current limitation to this is that they are not commissioned and drawn at a 1" scale so a graphic designer would need to res the up to be at the correct scale. Right now we don't have someone do that but it is something we are looking to do in the foreseeable future.
