Why do they bother putting up Map previews?

The maps images for the preview will be made larger today.

In the long run I would like to see the tactical maps shown online to be printable to be used at the table. I understand a current limitation to this is that they are not commissioned and drawn at a 1" scale so a graphic designer would need to res the up to be at the correct scale. Right now we don't have someone do that but it is something we are looking to do in the foreseeable future.
I have printed up maps from the wotc web site. Some pixilization is ok. WHats a bigger difficulty is when the maps have the number keys in the rooms.

It is just a keyed map really does not work well. even if you enlarge it to print it, you still have those characters on the map. I don't know if wotc even has the maps in unkeyed format, but if they did, those would be a boon.

EDIT: Thanks

I am guessing they are keyed after cartography to give the design team the flexibility to change the encounters so it is very likely a keyed and non-keyed version could be available (with non-keyed being more important).

Scott,

With extensive design and art background, I'm certainly capable of turning your map originals into printable, 1-inch-gridded, files that could be downloaded at wizards.com . If this interests you, e-mail me at claudiopozas (at) gmail (dot) com and we can talk more.

Many of the maps are now larger (but not all of them). They may scale to your browser window but you should be able to click on them for the full view.

Edit- they are all big my orginal post was when I was looking at them on Mac at work and some were not expanding.

It's hilarious, since the map above suddenly became HUGE. :)

I use the Ravenloft map gallery for my Online game, and have to do a lot of work to un-key and resize ([post=http://www.enworld.org/showpost.php?p=3678999&postcount=961]here[/post] is an example). When I started last year, it seems the maps were bigger, but that may be just me. For the non-castle maps, their okay, but still not ideal; the Castle maps are going to be far too small. The Paizo approach has been peach for this.
