Why do you play D&D?

I started playing because I wanted to do a geeky activity.

Yes, that's right, a geeky activity.

I continued playing because it involves two of my favorite activities, exploiting rules, and creative storytelling.

I also like crushing thoser upstart PCs like bugs. Mwahahahahahah!

Why do I play D&D? Well first and foremost, it's fun. D&D is a wonderful escape from the crap that goes on in our world today. People in the store piss you off--vent your rage on some kobolds or go slay a dragon (though that would be a mighty feat since I like the whole premise of the B.A.D.D. club...can i join?) I also like to play because it's totally drama and acting--and I'm really getting into the drama thing. D&D also let's me be creative--whether as a player, developing a unique personality and solving puzzles; or as a DM, crafting stories to tell with the PCs, shaping the world around them. Finally, it's a great way for a group of friends to just get together and spend time with each other.

The paper's not going to center too much around these responses - it's about analyzing the culture and structure of a D&D (or RPG in general) group. This was more to get a feel about why people get into the groups and how they interact with each other (which I found some contrast to my five+ groups)

If you want to see the paper, I'll post what I have - but it's damn boring :D
