Why EN World was down for 13 hours

Last night at around midnight, our provider (Cyberstreet.com) suffered a Denial of Service attack. It completely downed their network. I called them this morning, and they told me that it was quite serious, but they were working on getting things back up and running.

Looks like they succeeded!

It means someone came to the boards with no shirt or no shoes.

On the other hand, MEG Hal regularly comes to the board with no pants, apparently. And who knows what (if anything) hong is wearing.

Basicaly, in layman's terms so this won't be perfect, you ping a sever with so much data that when it gets done reply to your attack. (As your attack provokes a response) it reaches the point where it doesn't have the bandwidth (resources) to do its normal functions.

It’s not really down as in physically broken, its just really, really occupied.

As a prank writing in the New York Time that Eric Noah is selling his brand new Ferrari for $5 (then a phone number). He will get a thousand garbage phonecalls and his friends can't get through.

Or in computer terms, forcing lots of computers to send data to a certain location (enworld) so the hosts (cyberstreet) computer hardware can't handle it, resulting in downtime.
