D&D 5E Why go Strength over Dexterity?

We are going to have to agree to disagree on that one. Conan is known for many things and while he has incredible reflexes he is more strength than dexterity. Both high, as you say, but he was one of the strongest people in the Hyborian age only rarely coming across someone stronger than he was. I could see his strength and dexterity being equal but if one is higher than the other then it would be strength.

Sounds like you're including the later DeCamp and Carter novels. Their version isn't quite Howard's version. Howard makes much more of his agility than his strength, including direct comparisons to Panthers, and many references to his speed and agility, tho' his strength is quite impressive; more important is his raw size and his almost inhuman agility.
