Why is it "Chain, spiked?"

Doesn't Oriental Adventures have some chain-based weapons? I know there was a chain in 2nd ed. which didn't have spikes(which was called simply 'Chain'), and I think I saw one in the 3rd ed book.

Eberron has the Scorpion Chain (which is like a saner version of the Spiked Chain), but I don't recall if it is listed as 'Chain, Scorpion' or not.

I like the idea of a more mundane Chain with a weight on one end (1d6 B) and a hook on the other (+2 to trip and disarm, 1d4 P), usable as a double weapon *or* a reach weapon.

Eberron also has the whip sword, or something similar, in Secrets of Sarlona, which is basically a one-handed spiked chain (i.e. an exotic weapon with reach which can be used up close and which grants bonuses on trip attempts and possibly disarm, I forget)
