Why isn't druid the gnome's favored class?

Part of the reason must lay in the fact that no Divine Caster classes are racial favorites. It makes sence in the fact that How would a society full of clerics (or Druids, Rangers, Paladins) be like. How would they function with religion being such a personal thing.

Not quite true. Troglodytes have cleric as a favored class, for example.

I would think because Gnomes are pranksters and Druids are seen as these aloof, solitary nature priests. It doesn't jibe attitude-wise.

I've been thinking of making Cleric the Gnome's favored class, since the other 3 core classes (Fighter, Wizard, and Rogue) have a favored race. I'm just not sure what kind of racial benefits would be appropriate for a divine spellcaster.

Favored classes was the very first rule-0 application in my game. Class alignment restrictions was the second.

Gnomes do favor Druids in my campaign world.

Of course, I also have elves favor Ranger, dwarves are Clerics, and Hobgoblins (more LN than LE, IMC) are good Fighters.

I think having gnomes with druid as a favored class is a good idea. I like to see them as sylvan creatures. Somehow, they've been converted to total tinkers, which is cool, but I'd like to see some woodland ones, too. There is definitely a background of ties to the forest for most kinds of gnomes in fairy tale books and such.

I really don't like what Dragonlance did to gnomes in D&D. I think gnomes need to be taken "back to the forest" just like 3e was "back to the dungeon." Druid makes the most sense to me too - or maybe wizard.
