Why not call it: D&D?

So, we all talk about DnD or D&D. We denizens of boards like this know what it is. The rulebooks however still have a big "Dungeons & Dragons" label on them. I suggest that for the wavering quasi-geek, or parent therof, that name is still a problem. What's more the game is frequently not about dungeons and rarely about dragons, IME.

So, how about the next iteration being officially called D&D.

It's a quick easy name. It can make the logo and game name the same thing. Also, it means that "D&D next" becomes next: D&D.

It's not the just the next iteration of Dungeons and Dragons it's a new game: D&D.

They sort of tried that with 3e, but it didn't last (and was officially blown up with 3.5). The problem is that as fans and players, we need to call it something to distinguish it from all the other versions of D&D. Even the first set of D&D rules get tagged with OD&D these days.

Basically, if they do _fantastically_ - then maybe they can get away with it. I mean, it _is_ D&D regardless, it's just a question of what additional tag goes with it.

Whether that's D&D Next, D&D Unlimited, D&D Infinity, D&D Unity, D&D Omega, D&D 5E, or D&D Vista ;)
