Why not

Did anyone force you to comply with the rules of any game? I'd like to know why you've chosen to play DnD when there might be ideas that are different than yours?

I suppose this wasn't worth proposing since we already know why. That even if we knew the outcome of the session we play to experience the process.

They don't force me - I'm the DM.

And using the same ruleset gives us a shared framework and understanding that makes it far far easier to work out what's going on and communicate that narrative.

Any role playing game involves a compact between the players. That compact is largely expressed by the rules. If you cannot comply with the framework of the game, then don't play it.

Even if we started with no rules, rules would evolve. When children play imaginary play acting games they start with no rulebook, but quickly develop a structure that determines when and how each player can direct or place elements or events in the game. If asked, they might not be able to tell you what those rules are, but they know when a player has violated them.

(They normally do have a "rule of cool", though... if a child violates the conventions in introducing a new plot twist or character, but it's AWESOME, it gets to stay.)
