Why Planescape?

The reason is not law vs. chaos. Otherwise, eladrins and archons would fight too.

The reason is evil. Xenophobia and hatred are evil thoughts, and fiends, who are evil incarnate, are necessarily xenophobiac and hateful. The fiends fight among themselves, and against each others, and against the celestials, and against every thing, one way or another.

Besides, it was also needed for internal consistency. Since they are more numerous and agressive than other planar denizens, they would have eradicated everything if they weren't checked down by infighting.

Blood War

What am I missing about the Blood War? There has to be a reason for demons and devils to fight for eternity other than Law vs Chaos, that would be just silly.

What you're missing (I suspect) is that law vs. chaos is as important in Planescape as good vs. evil. The Blood War is no more silly than the antagonism between celestials and fiends; the only reasons the celestials aren't engaged in their own Blood War is because they're, well, <i>good</i>, so they're more accepting of other viewpoints and non-violent solutions.
(Doesn't mean antagonism between celestials isn't there, mind. Remember, Mount Celestia is closer to Baator ideologically than it is to Ysgard.)

Of course, if you don't like having law vs. chaos as a major philosophical tenet of the cosmos, then no, the Blood War probably won't work for you. Which is fine, too. But you asked!

I love Planescape because it led me to this place!

When Planescape hit, I was in a "low fundage" stage of life. SO, I dug around online and found this guy Eric Noah's site with journal's of his groups adventures.

Which filled my need for a while.

Then I noticed his postings about some kinda DnD revision...and a few years later, here we are!

Well, I have some insight into why people play PS, now. I think I'm in Henry's camp, though -- not really a draw for me, but I can understand it a little.

Oh, and I didn't abandon my thread. I've tried to post a couple of times, but the boards were wierd for a couple of days and kept eating my long posts.
