Lets say a WB starts a match tonight and achieves their yellow belt. Can they only join a dojo that already exists? Or can they choose any style that doesn't presently have a dojo associated with it?

they have to join a dojo that already exists. If you want to play a true loner the Yakuza and Honor paths aren't for you. The whole point of the paths is strength through a form of unity.

I think in the case of complications, common sense should rule. The general rule of thumb should be that the start of a fight determines conditions of the win. But if there are complications we can always make a reasonable guess as to what should happen.

And one more thing before I am out of here

Yellow Belts do not have to take their dojo style immediately. They can opt to shop around dojos and see which will take them or not. This is, as LHH said, a part of the roleplaying and a part of the fun of the path. The same will be true for yakuza.
