Wild Cohort questions

Thurbane

First Post
Hi all, I have a couple of questions about the Wild Cohort feat:

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20031118a

1. Can an animal chosen as a Wild Cohort also serve as a familiar?

2. What would be the effects of using an Awaken spell on a Wild Cohort? Could it still serve as a cohort?

3. What would be the appropriate level for a mule to serve as a wild cohort, as I don't think they are specifically mentioned?

Cheers - T

Anyone?

For question 3, I can't imagine a mule is any "higher level" than a camel...or are they not on the list because they are domesticasted?

1. I don't know for certain (can't find a reference) but I'd say no.

2. Again, no reference, but I think a wild cohort would follow the same rules as animal companions, special mounts, and familiars. If this is the case, then by the Awaken spell, it could not continue to serve as a wild cohort. (Since it now has intelligence, I'd think it could be a normal cohort as gained by the Leadership feat.)

3. In terms of combat power, a mule is somewhere between a heavy horse (1st level for a druid) and a black bear (4th level for a druid). You could put it in either category, really. But remember, for gaining higher level wild cohorts the character is considered to be a druid of three levels lower so if you place it in the second category then it wouldn't be available until level 7.

Sorry I couldn't be more official. :(
