Wilderlands - City State vs Bard's Gate

Howdy all. Personally I own the City State of the Invincible Overlord book. I think its a great book, though I'll probably never use all of it.

How much different is the Bard's Gate product? If you have one and use it as a sourcebook, would owning both be overkill?

Looking to pick up a new hardback and this may be one I'm looking at. (also looking at the Spell Compendium and the PHB2)

I've heard good things about Bard's Gate. CSotIO is very good though. Why wouldn't you use it regardless? If you are running Wilderlands, I would say it's a must. But even that city could replaced in such a setting.

Spell Compendium is a great rules expansion without actually changing the rules. I'd go that way, if you really felt 2 cities were too much.

Bards Gate is good. Besides, how could you ever expect to use every adventure idea presented in such books?

I bought all 3 you mentioned and I got the most enjoyment readinng Bard's Gate and have already put Bards Gate in my campaign. Its not called Bard's Gate in the campaign, it is called Aechon, but it is still Bards Gate.
Just like CSIO is in my campaign, called Fellen and has no "overlord", but it is ruled by a very strong Baron.

Heh, I put Bard's Gate in my campaign years ago (mostly due to the references in other NG modules, plus I liked the name), but never let the player's visit since the book hadn't come out and didn't have to have to try to square things when it did if I just made stuff up.

Oh i hear what you're saying. If I had a money tree out back I'd happily buy it for my shelf no question. Unfortunately I need to say "hey, you have a good city book...what's so great in the new one that's not covered in the other, except that its a different city?"

That's all Im trying to find out, as I'm not seeing much in the way of reviews with the site being down and all. I know there was a thread here but I can't seem find it.
