The whole "Han shooting first" thing brings out the green-rabid-fanboy response in me first, and the movie critic response second.

Han SHOT FIRST, DARN IT!

The thing is, I think the original action (Han shoots first) shows more about Han's character than the altered action. To me, it shows more of a character journey of a man who walks the gray line first, then finds a purpose, than just the simple "self defense" it turns into.

Simply put, if a mobster's got a gun on me, and taking me to "sleep wit' the fishes", I'M SHOOTING FIRST.

Is that a joke website? I can't imagine this being anything other than a joke: "The bad acting in Episode II was 'done on purpose' and is 'part of the style'."

So, he was going for "crap" on purpose then?

...um, no. Sorry, but what you may call 'bad acting' is the same style that Star Wars is emulating. Its that of the old Saturday matinee cheesy sci-fi stuff that Lucas loves and uses as a base for ALL the Star Wars. So yes, it IS part of the style. Don't like it? Oh well. Its been there since the Original Trilogy.

No, really, it hasn't. I've watched the original trilogy dozens of itmes, I've watched them and the two new movies in a short span of time to one another. A lot of the folks in the first trilogy aren't the greatest actors, but their scenes didn't just scream incompetance the way the new ones do; at least one got the impression they were trying. R2-D2 is more expressive in the first trilogy than Natalie Portman is in the new ones, and the dialogue in the "romance" scenes in AotC is more poorly written than the wost scenes of ANH or RToJ.

If it was a deliberate choice on Lucas' part, it was--IMO--an awful one. The people involved in the new movies are good actors; I wish he'd let them act.

*shrugs* Difference of opinion, I guess. I know I'm in the minority in this. Part of the reason that adds on to the 'bad' acting isn't only the style of movie Lucas is making, but the time period its set in. The society is very...well, the prequels definatly show what it is.
Now, I'm not saying that the Prequels are better than the Classic...Gods no they aren't. I personally think there is a LOT more merit to them, however, than many people want to give credit. Part of the problem, I think at least, is that the story Lucas is telling this time around is much much different than that of the Classic Trilogy. Its a lot harder for most people to come to grips with that...and I've always thought it also has something to do with us aging more than the movies themselves.
