Will the best knight (class) step forward?

Knights - more than Fighters and Paladin is only sorta fits. Sure you can make a knight-like character on a straight fighter build, but it still lacks something for me. I've got the S&S: Excalibur book, but I'm not sold on their version of the Knight core class. So to the Enworld sages, I ask:

What's the best Knight class/prestige class on the market and why?

I've checked some of the reviews in the database for the products I know of, but most provide a clinical assessment - no actual play opinions.

Thanks,

It has SEVERAL different knight classes to differentiate between the different types of Knights in the Arthurian mythos...

Baize: I'd probably disagree. That LoE class fits with the rest of the classes in there, but is more powerful than the standard fighter due to it's increased hit dice. On mounts, that Knight goes absolutely bonkers.

However, the prestige classes are very interesting. Try building a fighter up, only to be "Knighted" at 7th level or what not and start with his prestige class. It gives a bit of character going through as a squire or some such.

Eh... I disagree that the knight is more powerful tha the fighter.

On horseback? Definitely.

But how often does that happen? The GM can divert the party into a dungeon/thick woods/city at any time.

In my campaign experience running that knight class, that's the way it works. The knight is absolutely terrifying on horseback. In a dungeon, the fighter truly shines.

Keep in mind that fighters are allowed in Legends of Excalibur, so all the classes are balanced against the allowed PHB classes (fighter, barbarian, rogue, bard, druid)

Just my .02

It's a good book, and those knight classes are pretty colourful.

I would also recommend looking at the Pathfinder cavalier. The Pathfinder classes have a bit of a power-boost compared to 3.5, but the concept there is great.

I think a fighter is a great knight (especially if you're like me and bump their sp's up to 4/level). If you really want to spice it up, add the vow feats.
