Honestly, having three core books is stretching things a bit for me. I'd much prefer a single Rules Cyclopedia-style tome. And I definitely don't want to drag more than three books to my gaming table -- especially when I already have so many options available in the three core books of 3.5.

So, no. I have no plans on buying anything beyond the core three books for 4th edition, and even that purchase is questionable until I actually see something in the new game that really blows me away.

What is "Core"? Seriously. Does that mean I have to include it in my campaign?

Then not even the PHB1 is Core. My house rules doc is Core. Everything else can suck lemons.

I don't make any distinctions about core vs. non-core now.

Seems a bit premature to pass judgement.
I agree. I think the terminology will shake out once a pattern emerges. That pattern won't be clear until at least the 2 PHB is out.

One big thing will be determined by what they put in the SRD. I think at least one crowd will consider what's in the SRD to be "core."

BTW, if you aren't counting the "Roman numeral books" as core, then what is core? Remember, they are referring to the first book as the PHB I, a "Roman Numeral" book.

Since there are so many defiitions of "core" being thrown around, and they are only rarely being specified, I don't think I'll bother voting. Who knows how my vote will be interpreted...

Besides, I'd prefer to vote "Meh, who cares what they call it," and that's not an option.

I honestly don't think the use of the term "core" in 3E is particularly useful or important, so why should I care if they change it? I will always buy what I like and want to use, and ignore everything else. Also, it is not like a DM can no longer just say "I only allow the PHB, DMG, and MM" just because he can't use the term "core rulebooks".

I really don't see the big deal...
