Will you suffocate inside a hemisphere wall of force?

Air can't get through, but you'd have to make it permanant to really matter much, IMO. The spell duration isn't very long, relatively speaking, and the area can only be so small since it can't intersect the encapsulated creature's head. That means it could hold a pretty decent amount of air.

There's math to work out just how much...but then you get weird things like trying to work out how quickly gnolls metabolize oxygen compared to orcs and trolls...and I ain't going there. :)

I don't think it lasts long enough to suffocate anyone. People can survive for quite some time in a bag of holding, which isn't as big as the area of wall of force.

You mean a portable hole, right?

if the wall is shaped as a hemisphere, it leaves the ground open for air to get through. and dirt is quite porous- so NO you would not suffocate.

Iron floor is a different story

I'm with Archer - If I can make a dcXXX Escape Artist check to wiggle thru a wall of force, then air can get thru.

But I would have the wall stop heavier airborne things. Smoke, poison gasses, etc.

How about attacking the floor/ground. I'd say doing at least one point of damage would make a chip or nick in the floor, allowing air to seep in. You could just dig out if it's on dirt.

You can't get through a wall of force, nonsense from the ELH notwithstanding. A permenent wall could suffocate a creature inside, IMO.

"nonsense"?

How about "rules"? From the company that published the game. You may not LIKE them, you may not USE them, but they're established as rules.

On the other hand, I agree. I think the ELH ability is more of a supernatural-type use of the skill, and it's safter to just say that Wall of Force blocks everything. Once you let air pass through, you open the door for a lot of silly arguments.
