Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Well, Peter Jackson has demonstrated that using normal-sized people can work in such a production... I see lots of obese actors who will finally find work (note that denigrating fat people is still politically correct, so no problems there)!

I wonder how Jonathan Lipnicki will do (as Charlie) with Burton's reworked lyrics of I've got a Golden Shower...

Yes it is true, Tim Burton is doing the remake.

His personal actor Johnn Depp is playing Wonka.

FWIW Tim Burton is not a fan of the original film.

Hopefully he understands that Wonka is in fact an evil embodiment of temptation & handles the script accordingly. ;)
I loved that movie, although I'd like to see what disturbing vision Burton has for this disturbing tale.

If he wanted to make a modern movie about a recluse who lives in a fantasy world and tempts children into indulging with him in assorted vices, then he needs Michael Jackson for Wonka. Period.

Personally, I would rather see Tim Burton hard at work on a sequel to the two Phibes films; The Abominable Dr Phibes and Dr. Phibes Rises Again. There was supposed to be a third installment, known as either "Bride of Phibes" or "Phibes Resurrectus", tentatively pitting Anton Phibes against Hitler, but Vincent Price didn't like the screenplay. Burton is a fan of Vincent Price, so it would be interesting to see his take on a sequel, albeit without Price.

On a side note relating to children's movies - the soundtrack to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was recently released on CD.

Hm. Interesting. I wonder if there'll be a stark, leafless tree with creepy branches somewhere in this film? Because I'm not sure I've seen any Burton without a stark, leafless tree.

I also wonder if the vermnicious knids will make more than a cameo appearance. (They were mentioned in the original film, right? I can't quite remember.) If not, well, why aren't they filming the book's sequel? The one where they go into space and fight (or flee) flesh-eating aliens.

The threquel can be the 20 years on story... (And I'm sure Dahl would have no problems with such a repulsive storyline. The man wrote proper fairy stories.)

can you imagine how screwed up that movie will be.
You mean they'll have psychotropic orange midgets who... waitaminute.

There were rumors flying around before Tim Burton was attached that Ron Howard wanted to direct a re-imagining of the movie from the point of view of the oompa-loompas....

I do really like the movie as it is. It is a LITTLE dated, but it is still set in this rather fantasy-world. But I do enjoy most of Burton's films so I'll hold off judgement till I see the finsihed product.

I thought Burton did a nice job with his adaptation of Roald Dahl's other masterpiece - James and the Giant Peach - which was one of my all-time favorite books as a child.

I'd also recommend reading Roald Dahl's adult books - they are quite intriguing and cynical in that "British Monty-Python" sort of way - in fact you can see Dahl's influence in the Harry Potter books for sure...

Roald Dahl rocks. In the Wonka movie, that old man who recites the rhyme about the little men scared my :):):):)less as a kid. I liked James and the Giant Peach, too. No idea it was done by Tim Burton, that's cool.

I heard that the Author of the book its based on did not like the original film either. Changed too much. I heard Tim Burton's will be closer to the book. I never read book, so I can't compare them.

Actually Roald Dahl wrote both the screenplay AND the book. Can't say if he did or didn't like the direction Gene Wilder and the director went though.

I loved the original film as a child and I still like it today. I'm kind of afraid of what Burton's version will look like.

Just one more example of Hollywood raping my childhood :(
