Yeah, I made a couple out of 16ga galvanized wire, because it's cheap and easy to find. You can measure carefully and bend the wire around a hard corner, or just lay it on your battlemat and use two pair of pliers.

Mine worked well and were reasonably sturdy; if they get a little bit bent, you can straighten them out pretty well by hand. I think they would have lasted quite a long time, if I hadn't lost them at a con.
