Witchblade - Considering buying Vol. I

I don't know. I didn't THINK so, but I haven't been paying attention. New titles pop out on DVD all the time, without my knowing it...they are much like Deep Spawn that way.

So I have to recognize the possibility that there's a DVD of the short lived Witchblade series available.

As for the anime, I have no idea. Sorry. :(

If it follows the normal plot, it's about a police detective who becomes the "host," sort of, of a powerful device called the Witchblade, which bonds with her and has the potential to transform her into a kickass warrior who can do all kinds of crazy things. But it has a mind of its own too, rar.

More specifics, I cannot say.

The anime is currently running on Friday nights on IFC (Ch 550 if you have Direct TV).

It's okay. I'm watching it, but I wouldn't buy it or watch it again. It's set in the near future Japan after some kind of disaster in Tokyo, and the heroine is named Masane. She has amnesia. She also has a little girl who may or may not be her daughter.

The story is that there are X-Cons, human-looking robots which transform into different war machines, that are roaming around and murdering people. Masane has been hired by a corporation (although she doesn't really have much choice) to track the X-Cons down and destroy them. There's also another coporation and some women with "Cloneblades", Witchblade-like devices.

They've only just aired episode 7, so they haven't gotten around to the origin of the Witchblade, so I have no idea if it's the same as the comic or if it's "re-imagined" for this series. It's possible the X-Cons and Witchblade are linked.

It isn't as good as some of the other anime on IFC, like Basilisk or Samurai Seven, but the animation is nice.
