Rings of Power is Back [+] Appreciation

Personnaly, I like the Numenor scenes. The cramped sets and narrow alleys feel claustrophobic, which heightens the sense that it's a failing country. They also remind me of the sets in old pseudo-historical Hollywood movies, which I have a fondness for.

The scenes need a lot more extras! I don't mind the scenes, and really, I don't get my issues, I just don't care about them at all for some reason. I'd much rather watch the hobbits survive somehow, and gandalf doing stuff. Which is weird, I feel like I should like the other stuff more.

I don't think the Dark Wizard is Saruman, but he will probably mirror the same adversarial role and be defeated by the end of season 3.
Given that the blue wizards were supposed to have disappeared off to the east at some point, it does seem unlikely that they'd send Gandalf off to the far eastern edge of the map to meet a wizard other than them.

Then again, maybe we're seeing the start of this dark wizard's redemption quest, and he'll eventually embrace nature and settle down in a woodland cottage where he is known as Radagast.

Numenor is going to be epic in the long run -- Atlantis decides to invade Heaven! Holy crap! -- but having to build up to that means spending a lot of time with someone whose personality seems to mostly be his beard, his obnoxious son, and some not terribly clear argument about secular versus religious Numenoreans.

I think we're probably also at maximum plot threads now. And officially splitting the hobbits from the Stranger next season is just going to exacerbate that. Hopefully some of these characters can connect and be on the same plot threads at least some of the time.

I have very few positives thing to say about the show, which I'll detail in the other thread.

However... [SPOILER FOLLOWING]

The shot of Durin swinging that axe at the Balrog was amazing and made me immediately want to play a TTRPG. I love dwarves, they're the best ancestry.

That was an epic looking Balrog.

Rating the 3 more or less recent fantasy shows. House of the Dragon, Rings of Power, Wheel of Time

Best Season one.
1st HotD
2. WoT
3. RoP

Best Season 2.

1st. WoT
2nd RoP
3rd House of the Dragon

Most Improved S1 to 2
1st RoP
2nd WoT
3rd HotD (actually got worse).

Best Overall.

1st WoT
2nd HoTD
3rd RoP

RoP really dragged down by the worst S 1. WoT S 1 and HotD more underwhelming than as bad as S1 RoP. From example HotD S2> RoP S1. WoT S1>RoP S1.

If RoP turned in a mediocre S1 I would put it over HotD.

Generally rate consistency over peaks and lows ymmv.

WoT and RoP have more hope heading into S3 atm imho. HotD has issues surrounding budget, shortened seasons etc.

Durin: "Nat 20"
DM: "Well shoot, now you have really buggered up the timeline!"

Also, bring back the dwarven waraxe!
