Wiz XP only for Item Creation?

as it says, does item creation only eat up Spell Caster Experience? or can a multi classed character make items using xperience gained as a non spell caster cleass? (I don't have the 3.5 DMG handy to check, sorry)

There is no "spellcaster experience" or "non spellcaster experience". Theres only experience. Whether or not you spent it on thief or wizard the levels before is irrelevant because you can't spend enough exp making an item to drop yourself a level. The current experience you're getting to level the next level whether it will be wizard or not also isn't important. If you spend the time making the item the experience you lost meant you spent the time making that item. It has no relation to classes.
