Wizard: Arcane Implement Mastery

First Post
The PHB (157) states the following under 'Arcane Implement Mastery':

"You specialize in the use of one kind of implement to gain additional abilities when you use it. Chose one of the following forms of implement mastery."

It then goes on to describe the benefits of mastery with an Orb of Imposition, Staff of Defense, and Wand of Accuracy.

I assume a Wizard can use (and channel their powers though) any of the three implements, thus being able to apply any implement's enhancement bonus to his powers.

However, he only gains the "mastery" benefit when he is using the implment appropriate to his chosen mastery.

Is this correct?

Thanks in advance!!.

Wands for retaining spells as well...

Yes.

Keep second implement feat (paragon tier) in mind, though. Could be handy to know about if you're deciding where to put your stat points.

I'm thinking a wand should be one implement (perhaps a second one with the second implement feat), since you replace spells in later levels, you could retain the use of one spell you like by creating a wand for it. I don't find that wands have a limited number of charges as in 3.x. I'm mulling this one since I'm interested in the Spiral Tower paragon path (though the Swordmage sounds interesting as well).
