Wizard at 30 still using magic missle?

Final Attack

First Post
While the Fighter has changed his weapon for the 6th time to the brand new exciting "+5 magical 'oh-god-not-the-face' Greataxe of doom."

Will I, as a wizard, still be firing magic missle? It gets a boost at 20, but surely an upgrade would be more exciting. I'd like to think by the time I'm ready to ascend and become a god I would have learnt a new at-will trick or two.

You're confusing two completely different things.

The Fighter's "+5 magical 'oh-god-not-the-face' Greataxe of doom" is a weapon.

The Wizard's Magic Missile is a power.

Which he will be firing from his "+5 magical 'oh-god-not-in-the-face' Staff of Death, Orb of Power, or Wand of Infuriating Frustrations. :)

Indeed. Your wizard will likely be wielding a "+5 magical "oh-god-don't-melt-my-face" implement of gloom" himself.

Edit: the ninjamousepire has bested me

That's one of the things I loved about City of Heroes when I played it. The powers you got at level 1 scaled up with you and, assuming you worked them into your build, were always useful.

Ah, quite right. I guess I am looking forward, and realising that at-wills will be with them from 1st to 30th and for some reason it feels weird.

More powerful versions of the at-wills; at 21st, all the at-wills double their damage dice to keep up with the higher level powers.

I agree. They are a bit like 4E at-will powers. Not the choice for most damage, but a reliable standby. Hmm... I think I'll roll a blaster warlock or scrapper rogue...

At level 1, Your Magic Missle hits for 2d4 + Int damage.

At level 30, your magic missle with a +6 staff hits for 4d4 + int + 6, and crits for +6d10 damage.

... so, not much difference. ;)

At level 30 you'll probably have ways to reuse your encounter/daily spells. Also you can always retrain your at-wills later on. By the time your thirty they'll probably be new at-wills for Wizards for you to try out.
