Wizard at 30 still using magic missle?

1st level magic missile 20 int wizard. (7-13) (13 on crit)
30th level magic missile 28 Int wizard with +6 implement. (19-31)(31+6d6 on crit)

seems pretty good to me....but it wouldn't be my first action in a combat.

Thats why Wizards have improved initiative and encounter battlefield control powers :)

Ah, quite right. I guess I am looking forward, and realising that at-wills will be with them from 1st to 30th and for some reason it feels weird.

Yeah but when you are in round n+1 (where n is "I used up my last encounter power, and all the ways to get it back") of combat n+1 (where n is "I used up all my daily and utility powers, and all the ways to get them back") then those at will powers are going to look pretty damned good again. :)

That's one of the things I loved about City of Heroes when I played it. The powers you got at level 1 scaled up with you and, assuming you worked them into your build, were always useful.

So- your'e saying 4e IS like a video game? I knew it. I'm burning all my stuff ;)

While the Fighter has changed his weapon for the 6th time to the brand new exciting "+5 magical 'oh-god-not-the-face' Greataxe of doom."

Will I, as a wizard, still be firing magic missle?
Yes, just as the fighter is stll phoning in a Cleave or Reaping Strike with his spiffy new greataxe when he isn't throwing down an encounter or daily exploit, you'll still be using your +5 magical wand of 'this one's got your name on it bubba' to negligently toss the occassional magic missle when a more potent spell isn't called for.
