Wizard needing advice

SamuraiY

First Post
Okay. Im playing a wizard who is currently second level, just went up last week, and I am running out of money. now I don't mean that I can't afford that really wonderful magic item I want, I mean I'm down to my last few coins (my DM isn't giving us any money holding monsters). I'm sorry for whining, but I need a little advice (please don't tell me to go away):(

What spells does he currently know?

Perhaps he could start a business during down time to identify magic items or do simple magics for the locals?

Or consider capturing the monsters you are facing and selling them! :)

You could also speak to the other pc's and see if they can lend you some gold until some more treasure-laden adventures come about.

Finally- tell your dm your pc is looking for rumors/jobs that could earn the party some dough.

SamuraiY,

SD has some good advice, but also consider that your DM may simply not want you to have that item. Check with him and make sure that this is a quest you have a reasonable chance of success. There's no point in banging your head against a wall for no reason. (of course, your DM may not tell you as he wants to keep that kind of setting information a secret, but it never hurts to ask)

Hmm... Like the idea of capturing the monsters we're fighting, not sure how I'd do it though.
Unfortunately I don't think any of the other things wpuld work. I already tried finding us a sidequest. I was told that a nearby hydra needed slaying, a little too powerful for us. Also the other guys are pretty much in same place I am as far as money goes. I can't Identify things for two reasons: This is a low magic world so I would have no customers, and I'm preety sure we'd become outlaws pretty quickly. :)

I need the money for FOOD BiggusGeekus@Work :)

You would need to work it out with the other players. You could not do it alone- unless a sleep spell got through.

The next step would be to find people interested in buying them- zoo's, universities, nobles, etc. Or maybe that is the first step if you know of a monster. heh.

Another idea- wanted criminals. Check the local guards to see if there is a reward for any particular criminals and go get them.

On a more OOC suggestion- I would seriously ask your dm if this is what the campeign is going to be like for the long term. Wizards can be expensive to play, and you may want to change characters if it is a long term issue.

Good luck

your not blowing money, like hey I need money because I jsut added 10 spells to my spellbook, and your 2nd level and worried about getting food money?

In that case tell your DM that you take a day job becaue adventuring is paying worse than farming.

Thanks Sagan Darkside. I'll try the criminal thing. By the way, I've played with this DM before, and as a wizard, so I know that it should ease up somewhere between 3rd and 5th level. I just need the money to get there :).

Shard O'Glase, no I'm not blowing money like that, and actually, we tried taking day jobs a while ago. We then almost immediately had to leave the city when an old friend returned having been captured by the Thayans and subsequently escaping. With these guys such things are pretty common, so we can't really settle down anywhere. I had to keep a list of cities we were wanted in last campaign.
