Wizard or death mage? (which is better as an arcane minion master)

I have a distinct love for the concept of the minion master necromancer archetype yet for rp reasons want an arcane caster, not divine. However, I cannot port the dread necromancer from 3.5e and as a result am thin on options. My first idea is to be a necromancer wizard or necromancer wizard/agent of the grave, though even with command undead for free I am not sure if the wizard can be a good minion master. The other option would be the death Mage a third party class from super genius games which can be found on the pathfinder srd. The death Mage is a very focused class that can get an ability that acts as leadership except that it gives you undead minions that actually have class levels, and they can be upgraded too. However, the class has a VERY limited spell list and if I take it I will miss the versitility of other caster classes.

So, which class would be better for an arcane minion master?

Can't say much about the Death Mage since I've never really seen it in action. There's a necromancer wizard in my current party though, and while he's essentially just as good and versatile as any other wizard, he's not much of a minion-user.

Necromancers are really limited by the number and strength of undead they can control. They get essentially one minion, maybe a couple if they're high levels, but at that point your small batch of zombies is going to be good for very little, except perhaps soft cover and sending ahead to test for traps.
