Reg: Wizards & Sorcerors

Halfling Sorceror of Greyhawk and a certain Elven Wizard of Faerun walk into a room and see a pile of treasure.
Both:"Casting Detect Magic" the only difference is that the Halfling casts an extended version so the elf has first chance at a spellcraft check.
DM: "There's a gleaming longsword, a spellbook, a couple of chests full of money and a ring, all the items radiate as enchanted."
The elf being now 11th level (he Halfling is only 3rd in case you're wondering) makes an obviously massive spellcraft check.
DM: "The Longsword is definitely enchanted with spells of the school of enchantment and illusion, the spellbook looks genuine and the ring radiates abjuration of a minor level."
Elf: "I move to pick up the sword then the spellbook and finally the ring," he tells the DM.
Halfling: "Why are the chests enchanted?"
DM: "Huh?"
Halfling: "You said all of the items were enchanted, I mean that sword he just picked up is probably cursed since why would it radiate illusionary magic?"
DM:"You must have misheard what i said"
Halfling: "Nope, you actually said that," having an obviously better memory than the DM
Elf:"What did you say about the sword?!" he gulps having declared he was picking it up first.

Moral of this story: Just because elves can use racial weapons doesn't make it a good thing and for the record this particular elf did find an enchanted longsword which nearly killed him as it belonged to the head of the Assassin's Guild and that wasn't the first time he picked up cursed items either...

"Gods-cursed, one-trick sorcerous dabblers!"

This was the response of Lendaucis, the party wizard of my Wushu-powered D&D game on the RPG.net boards, to Saernan, my two-wand sorcerous investigator whose specialty is divination (it's worth noting that Wushu lets you get away with crazier character concepts than D&D, as long as the players and the DM are on the same page).

Lendaucis had just brought down a hobgoblin airship by setting it on fire -- right in the middle of a forest (it's worth noting that Lendaucis is rather impulsive) -- and Saernan had yelled at him to do something to get the fire that this caused under control because "it was your mess to start with!"

Lendaucis's player and I had a good laugh in the OOC thread on how "our two mages are going to get along juuuuuuust fine." :D

And something my sorcerer might use later on:

"It amazes me that all your years of study at the academy haven't granted you even one iota of COMMON SENSE!"
