Wizard specialist/variants and prestige classes?

I am constructing a Mystic Theurge (for instance). It says "no other benefits of the class".

Does the MT advance as a Specialist/Variant? Would he get an extra spell per level? would she get a plus one to all domain spells?

Would prescience use advance at 1 per 5 levels?

You gain spells per normal.
