I'm afraid that this digital stuff really turns me off of 4E, and it turns D&D into nothing but combat... the problem with pretty much all MMORPGs and online games. Actually roleplaying by typing or through microphones is notoriously... lacking.
These videos actually make me LESS excited about 4E than I had been. I hope this aspect of the new edition can be easily ignored.
And some of the things they said in the video make me... wary. I really hope the game doesn't become too abstract. I love the detail of 3E. I really don't want character detail to be glossed over in favor of "streamlining" the game.
But I'm still optimistic and quietly excited about the possibilities of 4E.
I had quite the opposite feelings after watching the video. I am getting excited about this for one reason, I can play D&D with friends who currently play MMORPGs. If they can speed up play and simplify it, great!
Before I saw the video I was in the "I'll buy the PHB so I can play LG" camp but now I am thinking to buy into the whole digital experience... if the price is low enough.
